コンゴには1999年より世界最大級の平和維持軍が投入されている。

混乱する東部にその兵力を集中するが、
広大な国土のコンゴで面を抑えることはできず、
主要地を結ぶ線の上をパトロールするのみ。
その線の両脇には、
民兵の眼と銃口が光る深いブッシュが果てしなく広がる。
民兵の待ち伏せ襲撃に多数の死者を出したこともあった。

一方で、民衆の期待と失望はいつも大きい。
事態を打開できないMONUCに対して怒りを爆発させ、
道路封鎖や投石を行う民衆もいる。

「オレには妻と子供が待っているんだ。こんな仕事は早く終えて、
国に帰りたいよ」

こんなMONUC兵士のつぶやきを耳にした。

インド、パキスタン、ウルグアイ、モロッコ、南アフリカ…
世界中の国々から集められた兵士たちは、
見知らぬアフリカの混迷国で、
一人ひとりが戸惑いながら、
今日も任務に着く。

In DR Congo, there has been one of the biggest peace keeping operation in the world since 1999.

They sent most of their soldiers to the war-torn Eastern region.
Although they can control main towns and routes, it is impossible to cover most area in this huge region.
Along the routes, there are deep bushes where the militias deploy.
In fact MONUC have lost many their men by the ambush of militias.

On the other hand, every time local people has much expectation and disappointment on MONUC.
Sometimes they blocked the routes or throw stones in a fury.

"I have a wife and children in my country.
I want to achieve my duty as soon as possible
and go back home"
one peace keeper murmured.

MONUC, an organization by many countries from around the world. 
Each of them are struggling for their duty
in this confused nation of Africa.
